Northeast Brazil Hosts Advanced Training on Asset Recovery and Anti-Corruption
Recife, Brazil – Over 180 public officials from the Northeast region of Brazil are participating in an advanced course focused on asset recovery, anti-corruption, and combating money laundering. The National Training Program for Asset Recovery and Combating Corruption and Money Laundering (PNLD) kicked off this Tuesday at the regional headquarters of the Central Bank of Brazil in Recife (PE).
The training, which runs until Friday, will cover topics related to the National Network of Technology Laboratories Against Money Laundering (Rede-Lab). Thirty speakers, coordinated by the National Justice Secretariat (Senajus) of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), in partnership with the Public Ministry of Pernambuco, the Civil Police of Pernambuco, and the Central Bank of Brazil (Bacen), will lead the sessions.
During the opening, Fábio Santos Pereira Silva, the acting National Justice Secretary, emphasized the event’s role in strengthening the fight against organized crime. “This course aims to provide a solid and integrated knowledge base and promote collaboration between institutions,” he stated.
He highlighted the strategic importance of Rede-Lab, which has been in operation for over a decade and includes laboratories in 64 public bodies across all federal units, including Civil Police, Public Ministries, the Federal Police, the Federal Public Ministry, the Federal Revenue Service, and the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade). “The PNLD has already reached every state and the Federal District, training over 35,000 public agents. This significant reach is only possible thanks to the dedication of the partners involved,” Silva affirmed.
The advanced PNLD course in Recife underscores the MJSP’s commitment to continuous professional development. “More than just technical training, we seek to foster a true learning community, based on inter-institutional cooperation and the development of joint, effective, and evidence-based responses,” Silva concluded.
Course Covers Various Money Laundering Methods
The week-long course will delve into a range of topics, including fintechs and payment arrangements, the application of artificial intelligence in preventing money laundering, financial intelligence reports, asset recovery strategies, extended confiscation and visual law, bid rigging, analysis of corporate tax data, and the use of crypto-assets. The training will also address the systems and databases available to Rede-Lab.
Furthermore, the training will explore the need for integration between the Banking Movement Investigation System (Simba) and the Judiciary’s Asset Search System (SisbaJud).
Simba was developed by the Federal Public Ministry to facilitate the secure and efficient exchange of banking data between financial institutions and public bodies, subject to prior judicial authorization.
SisbaJud is an electronic system that connects the Judiciary to the Central Bank and financial institutions. This integration will streamline the fight against corruption and financial crimes.
