Vinteum Launches Bitcoin Students Day to Boost Open-Source Development

São Paulo, May 26, 2025 – Vinteum, a non-profit organization committed to fostering open-source development within the Bitcoin ecosystem, has announced the launch of Bitcoin Students Day. This series of immersive technical events is designed for university students eager to deepen their understanding of Bitcoin and the Lightning Network.

The initiative draws inspiration from Vinteum’s ongoing collaboration with the Bitcoin Students Network, a global movement of student Bitcoin communities that promotes education and connects the next generation of ecosystem contributors. The first event is scheduled for May 31, 2025, at Casa21, Vinteum’s headquarters in São Paulo, and will feature students from USP and Inteli.

A second event is already confirmed for June 28, targeting students from UFSCar, Unicamp, and ITA.

The program includes engaging discussions, hands-on exercises with bitcoin-cli commands, Bash challenges involving real mainnet block analysis, and a workshop on developing Lightning applications using LND, TypeScript, and Node.js. The day will conclude with a barbecue, fostering integration among participants and facilitators.

These events are organized in partnership with student leagues such as Polichain (USP), Inteli Blockchain, the UFSCar Bitcoin Club, and emerging groups at other institutions. Vinteum will cover transportation to Casa21, as well as meals and infrastructure throughout the day.

“The goal is to provide a practical and technical experience for students in computer science, engineering, and related fields who want to truly understand how Bitcoin works under the hood,” explains Lucas Ferreira, executive director of Vinteum.

Edil Medeiros (professor at UnB and Vinteum partner), Lorenzo Maturano (engineer at Bipa and dev advocate at Vinteum), and Jão Noctus (engineer at ZBD and dev advocate at Vinteum) will also serve as facilitators.

This series is part of Vinteum’s mission to strengthen the technical Bitcoin ecosystem in Brazil. The organization plans to hold at least eight editions of Bitcoin Students Day by November, when it will participate in the Satsconf 2025 conference with a range of technical activities and its traditional hackathon, SatsHack.

Vinteum has begun preparations to bring the project to cities with active technical communities, including Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, and Florianópolis, where BitDevs groups are present.

In these regions, events will be held in the capitals, and Vinteum is open to supporting transportation for student groups from other universities in the state who wish to participate.

Furthermore, the organization aims to expand to other regions of the country, such as the Midwest, Northeast, and North, if there is local demand. In such cases, Vinteum is willing to hold events in the capitals of these regions and can support the mobilization of student caravans from nearby cities.

Students from across Brazil are encouraged to contact info@vinteum.org to help organize an edition in their region or university.
