Youtuber Exposes Cryptocurrency Recovery Scam Promising Military Backing
Popular Youtuber Kitboga, known for his elaborate scams targeting scammers, recently uncovered a network of fraudsters posing as lawyers online. These fake legal professionals were preying on victims of cryptocurrency scams, falsely promising to recover their lost funds.
The scam involved a website banner claiming affiliations with the U.S. Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and FBI. The fraudsters boasted a 95% success rate in recovering stolen cryptocurrency.
Kitboga, with nearly 4 million subscribers, engaged the scammers, pretending to be a victim who had lost $56,000 in a cryptocurrency investment. He told the scammers that the platform indicated he could withdraw over $370,000, further enticing them.
Questionable Affiliations
During the interaction, Kitboga questioned the legitimacy of the law firm’s supposed affiliation with the U.S. Army. The scammer vaguely responded that he couldn’t comment but insisted the information’s presence on the website validated its truth. “If it’s on the site, then yes, definitely,” the scammer stated, prompting laughter from the Youtuber.
Kitboga further inquired whether the military had also lost money, to which the scammer replied that the firm provided cybersecurity for the institution’s website.
“Can You Parachute Onto Their House?”
The fake lawyers were offering services ranging from trademark registration to cryptocurrency recovery. Kitboga was quoted a fee of $8,000 to initiate the recovery process for his “lost” cryptocurrency.
While dissecting the scammer’s claims, Kitboga sarcastically asked if they could deploy U.S. Army paratroopers to descend upon the thief’s residence.
“Do they parachute in, or how do they get to the scammer’s house after you find him?”
Kitboga even attempted to negotiate a $4,000 discount to begin the investigation, but the scammers refused.
Sarcastic Confrontation
In a moment of playful confrontation, Kitboga mocked the scammer over the phone, using a disguised voice:
“Just to make sure I understand correctly, you are, uh, you are affiliated with the United States Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and the FBI. You have a 100% success rate in recovering money from people who are victims of cryptocurrency scams. And after using a VPN and SSL to find the cryptocurrency, you will have the full force of the United States military extracting the money from the scammers. And that’s only $8,000?”
The Youtuber explained that he began his career after witnessing his grandparents targeted by phone support scams. He now dedicates his time to uncovering the identities of scammers and reporting them to authorities, but not before enjoying the absurdity of the situation.
